I work from home in my comfortable, peaceful therapy room, which I hope will provide you with a safe and conducive environment, to allow you to discuss whatever is causing you distress. I offer a free, half-hour, initial consultation to all my clients, for us to get to know each other so that you can decide whether I am the right therapist for you, as research shows that a trusting, supportive and respectful relationship will enhance the success of our sessions together.
Anything you share with me will be treated in strictest confidence unless I am concerned that you are in danger or may harm yourself, but I will always discuss this with you first. I usually take notes during sessions, as there is a lot to remember, but again, they are confidential and kept in a locked file, and for my personal use only, unless you give me permission to share them with my supervisor, in which case your personal details will be obscured.
We will briefly discuss the reason for your visit and why you have sought help from me at this point in your life. I will explain a little more about the techniques I use and how I believe they will help you, and we will make a plan for our forthcoming sessions.
We will discuss your previous experiences of therapy; it doesn’t matter if this is your first time, as I will guide you through everything you need to know, it is just helpful for me to know your past experiences and whether you found them beneficial. We will discuss any medical conditions and medication, and also your goals and expectations from our sessions together. During this session, I will give you the necessary paperwork, including consent form, for you to complete at home and bring with you to our first session together. I will discuss my fees, and how to make payments.
